Licensing & Insurance

Are you licensed for demolition in Connecticut?

Yes. PRC Builders LLC holds an active Connecticut Demolition Contractor license (DMCR.003450), issued by the Department of Administrative Services. It covers full structural demolition of buildings up to 2½ stories or 35 feet.

How do I verify a demolition contractor's license?

Search the company name on Connecticut's official eLicense lookup (elicense.ct.gov) and confirm the credential type says Demolition Contractor and the status says ACTIVE. A home improvement registration is not a demolition license.

What insurance should a demolition contractor carry?

General liability sized for structural work — we carry $2M — plus workers' compensation for employees. Ask for a certificate of insurance sent directly to you before work begins; we provide COIs as standard practice.

Permits & Timelines

Do I need a permit to demolish a structure in Connecticut?

Almost always, yes. Houses always require one; garages, barns, larger sheds, and in-ground pools usually do, depending on the town. We check your town's requirements and pull every permit ourselves.

How long does the permit process take?

The demolition itself takes days — the lead time is permits and utility disconnects, typically 2–4 weeks for a full structure depending on the town and utility backlogs. Small structures are often much faster.

What are utility disconnects and why do they matter?

Before a structural demo permit is issued, gas, electric, and water must be disconnected and signed off by the utilities. It's the step that actually sets your project timeline, and we coordinate all of it.

What happens if demolition is done without a permit?

Stop-work orders and fines in the short term; title and insurance problems in the long term. An unpermitted teardown often surfaces during a future sale. Permits cost a few hundred dollars — always worth it.

Cost & Quotes

How much does demolition cost in Connecticut?

Working ranges in our area: sheds and decks $500–$3,000; garages $2,000–$8,000; concrete flatwork $1,500–$6,000; in-ground pools $5,000–$15,000; full house teardowns $15,000–$40,000+. Every job gets a firm written quote.

What drives the price of a demolition project?

Five things: equipment access, foundation scope (leave, break, or remove), disposal tonnage and material types, hazardous-material abatement if present, and utility disconnect fees. Size matters less than people expect.

Can you quote from photos?

Often, yes — especially sheds, garages, decks, pools, and concrete. Text photos to (203) 909-8639 or attach details to the quote form and most quotes go out within 24 hours.

Process & Site

What happens to the debris?

Everything leaves with us to licensed facilities. Concrete and metals are recycled whenever possible, which also helps disposal costs. Your site is left broom-clean, raked, or grade-ready — your choice.

What about asbestos or lead?

Structures of a certain age may require testing before demolition. If abatement is needed, it's performed by a licensed abatement contractor before we demo — we coordinate the sequence so it doesn't stall your project.

How disruptive is demolition to neighbors?

Less than people fear when it's run properly: dust control, protected property lines, sensible working hours, and debris gone daily rather than piling up. Most residential teardowns are done in 2–5 working days.

Can you leave the site ready for new construction?

Yes — foundation removal, backfill, compaction, and rough grading are all on the menu. As part of the PRC Builders family, we demo with the rebuild in mind.
